Place Making Vision

In March 2022, onRedchurch commissioned JA Projects to deliver a Place Making Vision for the Redchurch Street neighbourhood. The vision was required to act as a framework for the creation of a concept design for the Street’s future public realm.

The commission sought to consider the issues that local people feel the street presents, introduce new voices to discussion over the future of Redchurch Street, bring opinion together and formulate a vision for future consideration by the public.

At the core of this approach was a desire to:

  • Make Redchurch a more inclusive, accessible and resilient street

  • Promote difference and diversity in use of Street

  • Start to create a greater, more equitable relationship between Redchurch Street and its neighbourhood

  • Enable onRedchurch CIC to work more collaboratively and effectively in future

Many constraints were outlined in the brief, including fire access and differing views of residential communities on the Street, the economic and social needs of the area and countervailing views on key issues, such as transport, traffic and the impact of hospitality and other commercial services on local people’s quality of life.
